What’s old is new again – we’ve seen it happen in the fashion world often enough, and so it is the case with New York architecture. Following the great fire of 1835, New York mandated that all buildings be made of non-combustible materials. This led to a brick building boom with architecture luminaries like J.E.R. Carpenter, Emery Roth, and Rosario Candela setting new standards for residential living with brick and limestone cooperatives rising on the Upper East Side and Upper West Side.
